There are things that before I was a mom I said I would never do. You know the desire to be the perfect mom for your kids.
For instance, I thought I would never let my child leave the house with dirty clothes on or a dirty face. Because isn’t easy just to wipe them off or put clean clothes on a child? Yeah, well easier said then done. And by the time you get everything ready and get kids in the car, buckled in their seats you look at them and say, “who is your mother and why did she let you leave the house looking like that?!” Yesterday we were out and about and ran out of diapers. By the time we got home JD’s jeans were soaked because his diaper was so wet. Poor kid. I said I would never let that happen either. You know, go places unprepared for any emergency.
Maybe there was an instance when I said I would never let my children eat and mess up my van. Like a brief instance when it was new I said that. And now I have to vacuum out my van like once a month because of all the goldfish cracker crumbs. If I’m extra lucky I have to scrub them out of the floor mats too.

Then there was a time I said I would NEVER, EVER put a harness or leash on my kids. I didn’t like it how looked. I still kinda don’t. But I did it. I bought two. Holly picked out a monkey and after much contemplation JD picked out a little doggy. He sat there for a minute saying, “Um,” as he decided between a dog and a bear. Now that they are running fast, Holly and JD like to go in different directions. And they don’t listen when I say stop or come back. I also thought it would be easier for Cate, when she starts as their nanny next week. They enjoy wearing them too, which makes it so much easier to use them. They will come in handy when we go to Virginia in March and Disneyland in September.
I think I probably said I would never let them sleep in my bed either and, well, let’s not talk about that!

Too funny and I know exactly how you feel. I need a rubber band around my wrist so when I use those “I Never” words I can snap it and bring me back to reality.
I felt the same way about the leash thing, and man when I had Logan I gained a strong testimony that they were created for a great purpose!
I am all about the leash! It is a must at Disneyland and at airports. It is too scary as a mother to lose your kiddos in a crowd!! Peace of mind is worth all of the looks you get while having your kids on a leash! (If you do get looks, its from people who either don’t have kids, forgot what it was like, or do not have wondering children. The rest of us understand! Don’t let them get to you!)
Hey, who is that looking over my shoulder
You are my inspiration.
Leashes, and all.
