I don’t know many people who enjoy eating the butt ends of the bread. I learned earlier this year that my brother enjoys a nice grilled cheese with them. No one in my house does so I save those end pieces for trips to feed the ducks. I had saved quite a bit of bread so we decided it would be fun to go to Newhall park with Grandma and Uncle Johnny for some afternoon fun. We had been talking about it all day so when the time came the kids were really excited.
JD led the way, with a firm grasp to the bread bag.
When we got to the pond there weren’t many ducks around. There were plenty of geese on the lawn and ducks swimming far away. It didn’t take long for them to gather and partake of the white bready goodness. JD remembered last time how he got snipped at so he was quick to release the bread.
After a little while, a feisty, white duck came honking at us. Sticking his neck all out and flapping his wings. Made all of us a little uneasy. I’m not gonna lie, I thought it was time for us to get out of dodge!

And then as if things weren’t exciting enough, the geese, that were chillin on the lawn behind us, started inching their way closer to us. Blocking us in from all angles. We were almost pooped on as two groups of geese flew over our heads and into the water. Pretty cool sight as they were landing.
We are already saving our end bread pieces for our next trip. Who wants to join us?

such cute pictures! we love seeing the ducks- in fact, when we lived in Provo, Ellie and i went to see the ducks almost every day. she was OB-SESSED! poor little Alice gets a little overlooked- but i’m thinkin’ we need to make a duck trip for her soon :)
