It was nice to spend this past weekend with family. I had the day off Wednesday and did some Christmas shopping to beat the rush on Friday. Mac got a new hair do and received a bandana, courtesy of PetSmart grooming. He hates that place, mostly because he hates getting a bath and the dryer. He’s running out of that place when I pick him up but not too fast because his freshly clipped nails don’t seem to help him on the cement floor. He’s a good little guy!
For Thanksgiving dinner I made an apple pie. Thanks Dad for teaching me how to make pies! It was a beautiful pie, and it tasted good too. We were able to relax, eat, watch the Packers beat the Lions (and may I mention the Pack is back!), eat some more and watch some more football. Every year at the end of our Thanksgiving meal we pass around the story fork and everyone has to tell a story. This year I was dreading it mostly because I didn’t have a funny story to tell, but this year we were able to tell a joke, story or something we were grateful for. Everyone shared a little of everything, there was lots of laughing and even some tears. (Doug, we missed you and we’ll be waiting to hear your story later). We have a lot to be grateful for.

I was talking to my mom today and we were saying that it’s amazing how the blessings keep flowing and that this year our family was really blessed! I love my family! We finished off the day with some volleyball ya’ll.
Friday night, Jim’s cousin, Megan, had tickets to “So You Think You Can Dance” (the tour), in Oakland. It was a long night but quite fun, especially sitting in a luxury suite. It was fun to see some of the great dances again, but not so much the solos. They had some new dances as well. Sabra danced her fair share being the winner and everything. Enjoy the photos, some are quite blurry but I had to capture some of the moments. There was a lot of screaming girls! We enjoyed the dancing and the time we were able to spend with the Florida Hopkins!

Well I am doubly jealous. I thought I was just missing thanksgiving dinner but instead I missed so you think you can dance concert too! If I’d have known that I would have walked home! It’s cool I guess whatev.
Doug we did miss you and thought of you often! The dance was fun but they didn’t do your favorite mannequine dance so you didn’t miss out on much.
So do you have a story?
I shall tell the story of how I met Cate…It was a dark wintery sunday evening and the stars were shining brighter than ever in anticipation for the destined events of the night. The three musketeers (Cory Rhodes, Nate Angus and I) went over to visit a friend of Cory’s. I knew the girl we were going to visit and had other things on my mind at the time so I wasn’t all that excited to be there. In fact upon arriving at the destination I was all too willing to wait and sit in the car while Cory conducted his business. But no! I could not seperate the three musketeers so I went with them. As we entered I could sense the awkward tension and decided in that instant that I would not allow for there to be any uneasiness. After all I had left the comfort of the car outside to come in and make conversation so I might as well make it happen. I walked in like a fire cracker and exploded with excitement for the possibilties of what might happen inside.
As I entered I noticed that there was a guy sitting at the table which normally is the automatic sign to get out but instead for some reason I proceeded to enter the front room. There she was sitting on the couch doing homework…She was wearing these glasses that for some reason were very attractive to me. They are the kind that are pointed at the frame supports with a kind of curve at the bottom part of the lens. Anyway I saw her and was instantly attracted to her.
Yesterday she asked me how it was that I could have possibly found her attractive as she had not put on any makeup or anything and was not wearing anything impressive. My answer…I don’t know. I guess I have a good eye for potential.
Anyway, as to give a good introduction to what happens next I should tell you about my headwear. I was wearing my A’s hat that night like a true fan would despite their lackluster season. So I approach the couches as to sit down and ask, like any polite person would,” Is it ok if I sit down here?”
Cate responded by telling me that she would allow me to sit down if I would do but one thing…Take off my hat!! Before she could finish the statement I was headed for the door and letting Cory know that I would be waiting for him in the car. I got out the door and made about 10 or 15 steps toward the stairs. As fast as I had made the decision to leave I grabbed a hold of my pride and realized the levity of the situation. She was after all just a girl and really how could she be expected to know very much about baseball or the quality money ball that the A’s are capable of playing for that matter. Anyway I made my way back in where she apologized profusely for having made such a joke without really having known me or my personality. I then suggested that she should get to know me better and that we should go out on a date sometime. She agreed and gave me her number and the rest is history.
Now I have just told you a story “based on the truth” which by the standards that have been established by the entertainment industry could mean that there are a few parts of this story that are true with a few embellishments here and there. I will let you all who know me and what I am all about make your own conclusions while I bask in my own pimpness!
I think you need to start right away with conversion efforts. Liz became an avid A’s fan by simply being around my passion. Share your baseball testimony with her…She’ll realize the truth eventually.
The impressive part is the humility shown by your return to the scene….but, your mama raised you better than to where a hat in the presence of a lady IN HER HOME! (make-up, or not). ..but remember, “…No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;
By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile—…”, that is when true love can flourish. Keep the faith.
Tell us more – we need the rest of the story – By the way I’ve added your ribbon to the story fork because that story belongs in the family lore. Now continue – what’s the latest adventure?
As much as I would love to document my life story on the family blog I have many other things that are drawing my attention. P.S. Cate is nervous to meet everyone.
Meeting the fam? She shouldn’t be to nervous just meeting your immediate family because they are all AWESOME! Just wait till she meets the rest of us.
Liz was lucky. She met all of us gradually. I won’t forget when Jim and Liz came over for dinner for the first time. It was great. She hadn’t even met your parents yet. It was fun just getting to know the woman who has brought Jim so much joy and happiness. I can’t wait to meet Cate. If you would like we could arrange that. But I don’t think and 8 hour drive is worth it(especially in the snow) so we will just have to wait and meet her.
Please continue to enlighten us on your life. I think the last few blogs have let all of us see and understand a side of you that has been wanting to escape. Continue to share. Tell Cate to relax and enjoy meeting your family. Let her know that if you LOVE her, we will LOVE her.
