Busy Life

Life is busy—we get so preoccupied with doing stuff that we forget to enjoy life.  So how does one enjoy life?  For me it’s smiling more, caring more about how I can make others happy than being mad that they don’t know how to make me happy.  When the world says look inward, the Savior says look outward.

Life is busy and then it’s over, unless we take time to love we may miss the best things life has to offer.

Life is busy—I can see why some people are overjoyed at the thought of sitting on clouds playing a harp all day but I suspect it would get very old very quickly. We humans need a challenge, a place to go, things to do. I think the real trick is enjoying the journey. When Dave and I went to Europe for our 10 year anniversary (is it possible that it was almost 20 years ago!), we took a sleeper train from Paris to the French Riviera. One of my sweetest memories of our trip was looking out the window of the train and seeing small villages with light posts lighting narrow streets and beautiful little houses. I’m afraid too often I’m so anxious to get to the destination that I forget to look out the window and enjoy the view. I always accused my busy mother of doing that. She was always anxious to get to the next stop. In fact a few weeks before she died I told her she should enjoy her days in Russia where she and dad were serving a mission instead of being so preoccupied with getting home. It’s good advice but I’m afraid I don’t heed it myself.

Life is busy—My babies are grown and it seems I wasn’t paying attention to the ordinary days that are so precious in my memory. I’ve spent too much time being annoyed. So anyone who reads this, love the people around you, forgive them for not knowing how to make you happy, enjoy life. What would my mother tell me now from her Spirit world perspective? I suspect she would say, “slow down—Life is good.”
