I wanted to capture every moment, 500 pictures worth, without missing out on experiencing our first trip to Disneyland as a family. And for Holly and JD, their first trip ever. It was exciting to say the least. So exciting that we are still talking about it. I even downloaded “It’s a Small World,” now wondering why I would do that to myself. Holly likes to play it over and over and did I mention over again. And tonight while she was playing the song she was saying to JD and me, “member we went on it, small world?”
From the moment we arrived even near Disneyland where they could see traces of Mickey they were pointing, shrieking with excitement, sometimes with their jaws dropped to the floor and arms flailing, at everything. Literally because everything made them happy.
Well okay the Queen of Hearts and the Rabbit did not make them happy but as the trip progressed there were high fiving, hugging and kissing any character we came across.
Okay, a little side story. As we were standing in line to see the above pictured characters, thinking now the Queen of Hearts probably shouldn’t have been the very first person we saw, a lady is cutting in line to get herself her daughter an autograph. Which by the way, I saw a few adults trying to cut in many different lines, as if the rest of us who had been waiting fore.ev.er didn’t matter, a little strange and a bit rude. Anywho, back to our lady friend, as she was cutting in line Lanette kindly mentioned that there was a line and she should get in the back of it. To which she proceeded to tell us that Sleeping Beauty told her to come over here. Lanette again tried to explain that there was a line. She didn’t like that and mentioned Sleeping Beauty again. Cate and I decided to jump in and told her it didn’t matter what Sleeping Beauty said and this was the line for Alice in Wonderland. We weren’t really rude about it but kind of annoyed. We later realized she was probably getting Alice confused with Sleeping Beauty. Crazy lady.
Tea Cups, Dumbo ride and the Carousel came next. All very exciting but maybe a bit overwhelming. They didn’t really smile during the rides but after you could tell they wanted more.

The kids did surprisingly well in line, on rides, walking, and dealing with long days and drives! Thanks to Aunt Cate for helping a lot with the kids.
We made our way to Toon Town for a quick visit to Goofy’s house, rode some cars, tried to open City Hall and had a tour of Mickey’s house. Now this is the place to go if you want to meet Mickey without waiting for too long in line. We didn’t really know what we were in for and found ourselves in line to meet the big M. Holly and JD were getting quite hungry and restless so I thought maybe we should turn around and go eat. We were at the front of the line by now and they took us through a door where we went into a room with about six or seven other people and there is Sorcerer Mickey waiting for us. We took a quick picture and walked out amazed at what just happened. We looked down the hall and there appeared to be about five more rooms all with different Mickey’s. The most brilliant idea ever!! On our way to meet the rest of the group for lunch we ran into Woody and Jessie, Holly’s favorite part.
We had lunch at our favorite Golden Horseshoe Saloon for some fun hill billy entertainment, yummy food and nice a/c! Before we headed home for naps Lanette took this great picture of all the big kids.
We ended the night in the park riding the Buzz ride (JD’s personal fave), the Nemo Submarine ride (we determined this was not meant for the Hopkins family, tight spaces + big dudes), the fun cars in Autopia, and Pirates of the Caribbean ride all while playing with new spinny light up toys enjoying time with each other. It was a very fun, exhausting first day, can’t you tell?
Stay tuned for more Disneyland fun. That is if you can stand it.
